"One of the fundamental reasons that why are Muslims backward in the field of science and technology is that a large portion of mainstream Ulema has shut the door to reality in a profound way. A large group of Muslim scholars denies causality; they consider apparent causes as an illusion of perception; and believe that relying on causes is against faith. The true function of the intellect is to reason, discover causes, search for explanations, and derive principles from the relationship between causes and effects. Thus, it is obvious, that one who denies causes, denies intellect; and cannot progress in rational knowledge."
