Trump FIRES his OWN Inspector General’s in Friday MIDNIGHT MASSACRE. Trump Administration fires watchdog Inspectors General from 17 federal agencies in late-night purge

President Trump  fired the independent inspectors general of more than a dozen major government agencies late on Friday. The Reuters says the total IG's were fired are seventeen. The IGs are the internal watchdogs whose job is to monitor federal agencies.

The federal agencies include the departments of defense, state, transportation, veterans affairs, housing and urban development, interior, and energy, this reported by The Washington Post, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

The purge affected 17 agencies the New York Times write but spared the Department of Justice inspector general, Michael Horowitz.

The Washington Post reporting that the firings 'appeared to violate federal law, which requires Congress to receive 30 days´ notice of any intent to fire the inspectors general.'

The Congress strengthened and expanded protections for inspectors general, in 2022, making it harder to replace them with hand-picked officials and requiring additional explanations from a president for their removal.

There is still silent from the White House and did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the reports.

Who is IG and his/her job? An inspector general is an independent position that conducts audits, investigations and inspectors into allegations of waste, fraud and abuse.

The fact that they can be removed by the president or the agency head, depending on who nominated or appointed them.
