The United States is counting the cost as the worst fires ever to hit one of its biggest cities - are still burning. Officially ten people have died in the Los Angeles inferno, but authorities say they still expect this to rise and they estimate as many as 10,000 buildings have now been destroyed.
The Palisades and Eaton fires tore through LA County, wreaking destruction. A new blaze - the Kenneth Fire - began threatening hillside homes earlier today. There are warnings a fresh bout of intense winds could further fan the flames.
A group of residents in Woodland Hills helped arrest a man allegedly trying to start fires. A police source tells TV FOX 11reporter that the man may be connected to the Kenneth Fire.
California fires are wreaking havoc on Los Angeles as crews battle several massive blazes, including the Kenneth Fire, Sunset Fire, Palisades Fire, Eaton Fire, Lidia Fire, Hurst Fire, and Woodley Fire. Areas impacted include the Hollywood Hills, Pacific Palisades, West Hills, Altadena, Pasadena, Sylmar, Acton, and parts of Ventura County.
The Los Angeles Police Department have confirmed that a suspected arsonist has been arrested in relation to the wildfires that continue to swirl around the LA area.
On Thursday afternoon a man was apprehended by citizens as he allegedly attempted to start a fire in the Woodland Hills, eventually being restrained using zip ties and rope. The suspect is believed to be in his mid-20s. One resident involved in the citizen’s arrest described the man as being armed with a "propane tank, or a… big yellow tank, like a flame-thrower".Read more
