India summoned the senior-most British diplomat in New Delhi while a man was arrested after violence and smashed windows at the Indian High Commission in London. They are believed to be supporters of a Sikh separatist movement. #Sikh #India #London





Indian media reported that "India said Sunday that it summoned the senior-most British diplomat in New Delhi to convey its "strong protest" over actions taken by "separatist and extremist elements" against the Indian High Commission in the UK.

According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, the diplomat was summoned late in the evening and an "explanation was demanded for the complete absence of British security" that allowed these "elements to enter the High Commission premises."

"She was reminded in this regard of the basic obligations of the UK Government under the Vienna Convention," the ministry said.


PA reports that a man has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder after a crowd incident saw windows smashed at the Indian High Commission in London.

Metropolitan Police officers were called to the building in Aldwych, Westminster, at around 1.50pm on Sunday, and two security guards sustained minor injuries.

Footage posted on social media showed a man detach the Indian flag from the first-floor balcony of the building while a crowd of people below waving bright yellow “Khalistan” banners appeared to encourage him.

They are believed to be supporters of a Sikh separatist movement seeking to create a new homeland or breakaway state.

The Met has launched an investigation into the incident.

A spokesperson said: “Windows were broken at the High Commission building.
