Canada and US weather: Heatwave kills dozens of people as temperatures soar to record highs of 49C #USA #Canada #Heatwave #iNews #BBCNews



Temperatures reached a record high for a third day in a row on Tuesday, reaching 49.5C in the small village of Lytton, British Columbia. “The air is like fire,” Sergiou Riverso, who was visiting Lyttonfrom the Vancouver-area, told CTV News, while villager Erin Aleck said: “It’s pretty crazy hot. As soon as you come outside, it’s like a punch in the throat.”

"In the US states of Washington and Oregon, where about a dozen deaths are being tied to the blistering heat, consecutive days of record high temperatures exceeded 37.7C in Seattle and Portland, while in Spokane the mercury rose to 42.2C on Tuesday – the highest temperature ever recorded there."
