Dan Gibson explains how a Petra context would affect the interpretation of Qur'an 16:103?

Dan Gibson sees the scripture and the history from an archeological angle but from a philologist's point of view, Qur'an is the first book in Arabic. The writings had discovered in these areas before Islam on stones and rocks, many in Greek language but two are in Aramaic. Arabic was an oral language in these areas before Islam not written. The Arabic in the South had different alphabets, not the one used to write Qur'an. We don't have even the handwritten evidence of the scribes to know from an Islamic historical point of view that which alphabets were available to the scribes to write the Qur'an. 

The religious language of Christianity in this area was Greek. We still use in our prayer ending with sura fatha "aimeen" yet among Christian prayer, they also use ending with "aimeen". The voice is the same but Christain "aimeen" is in Greek whereas Muslim "ameen" in Arabic. 

I am not sure about Dan Gibson's discovery, but during Sultanate Othman's time probably in 1800, a room was discovered in the Palestine area, where the room was full of written records for early Islam soldier's salaries and names in both languages, Greek and Arabic. 

The Greek literature came to Europe not in the Greek language but in Arabic translated into Latin. So, the historical evidence apart from archaeological shows the close link between Greek culture and Arabic at the time of its origin.
