Why original Islam gradually moved towards orthodoxy? To answer this question we have to trace it back to the time of the inception of Islam and its evolution. One evidence very much visible  the ideological onslaught loaded with full force of the existing taboos and morals of the time from Christian theologians, forcing Islamic scholars to cave-in instead of defending the changes they were representing at that time. They gradually themselves moved into orthodoxy and had  interpreted Islamic literature under Christian ideological pressure. For example: "Guibert of Nogent said that Muhammad [pbuh] taught as revealed a ‘new licence of promiscuous intercourse; and Guido Terrena, beginning, ‘they say every shame of carnal intercourse to be allowable’, had no hesitation in specifying the crimes to which he referred including bestiality and incest."
